If lights stay on in both positions then try pressing up on the clear portion of the lights, they each have an internal switch that will turn them on all the time ... When you pull the door panel off, you have the two cables. One the lock, the other the door handle. Make sure they are fully seated/snapped into the bracket holding them and the ball end is in the socket. If the lock popped out of there it would make noise and maybe wiggle but wouldn't actually fully engage.
I realize this is by design, but since the key fob is not waterproof and the metal key is, I want to be able to lock my key fob inside the car before kayaking/swimming/water sports so that I can just unlock and retrieve it with the metal key.
